Ready to Enroll

This morning I met with my doctor. My blood counts are where I want them to be. So that means, I'm probably at a good point to start the enrollment process. I asked him if I would need to get a Unity UW Health PCP to do a second referral to continue the care I'm already receiving in the UW Health network. He didn't know. I wasn't surprised since nobody on the medical side knows anything about the business side. And it's really impossible for them to know since the payment system seems even more complicated than treating cancer.

So, I used the Unity online chat and asked. They said that I can continue without another referral from an in-network PCP for the care I'm receiving at UW Health when I join the Unity UW Health plan. A Karen came on and in 2 minutes I had my answer: it would be no problem. I should seamlessly switch over.

So tomorrow, I will enroll.

  1. Hi Mark,
Not to scare you, but make sure you check back with healthcare.gov after you enroll, if you haven't gotten anything from the insurance company in a week or two.

I enrolled in mid-October, never got an email or letter from ins co. My state govt office researched it, but didn't get anywhere. Today I called the federal help center and even though I had an enrollment confirmation number, they said my app didn't go through, and even worse, the address on file was in a different state than my own! I don't know if it was fraud, or account data being scrambled at the back end. I won't know for at least 3-5 business days, until an "Advanced Resolution Representative" calls me back. Very frustrating.

Also, I would encourage you to apply for the subsidy. I am middle class, and I qualified. That's why we pay taxes all these years. To get help when we need it. If you are battling a disease, I think you deserve it. Best wishes with every thing :-)

  2. Thank you, me. I called Unity and sure enough, they had not received my application. In fact, they explained the screen that would indicate that my application had been successful and I had indeed gotten that screen! So Unity gave me a secret phone number to call. I'll try that and see if I can figure out what happened.
